Avatar Does Not Play

Question:

How can I fix issues related to Avatar playback on my Blu-ray player?

Answer:

Avatar may not play due to the following:

    • Player is not running the latest Firmware version
    • Player needs to be reset
    • Red message screen appears to be 'stuck'

Verifying Player Firmware Version:

  1. With the Blu-ray player ON press the Disc Eject/Open Button on the Blu-ray remote and wait for the disc tray to eject.
  2. Press and hold the INFO button on the Blu-ray remote until the firmware screen is displayed on the TV screen. The firmware version is displayed to the right of S/W.
  3. Locate your model and Firmware version in the chart below:
  4.

Note: OTN refers to firmware upgrades performed Over The Network.

    • If your player requires a firmware upgrade, click here to go to our Samsung Download Center. Enter your model number in the search box that appears, or select your model by category. When your product page is displayed be sure to click 'Firmware' for Firmware download and instructions.
    • If your player is running the latest Firmware version, proceed below to Troubleshooting.

Troubleshooting

If your player is running the latest Firmware version but Avatar still doesn't load or seems to be 'stuck' on a specific screen, perform the following in order:

1. Reset Player

  • For 2009 models (BD-P), with no disc in the tray press and hold the Fast Forward button on the front panel of the player.
  • For 2010 models (BD-C), with no disc in the tray press and hold the Stop button on the front panel of the player.

2. Press Skip/FFWD

  • Press the Skip/Fast Forward button on your remote control when the red or black information screen is displayed and allow 2-3 minute loading time (varies by model) before the movie begins playing.
  •

What if it still doesn't work?

Unplug your player for about a minute and then reconnect. Allow the disc to load (you may need to press Skip/FFWD on screen displayed) before it begins playing.
