  Question:

Which Samsung Blu-ray players support USB 2.0 for movie playback and which formats are supported?

Answer:

The Samsung BD-P1600 and BD-P1590 do not support USB 2.0 required for movie file playback from a USB thumb drive. Instead, MKV and MP4 video files must be burned onto a CD, DVD, or Blu-ray disc for playback. Only the current Samsung Blu-ray models, BD-P4600 and BD-P3600, support movie playback via a USB thumb drive.

Terms:

USB 2.0 - A connection standard allowing for high-speed data transfer between devices.

MKV - Matroska Video File format, commonly used for storing HD video and audio.

MP4 - MPEG-4 Part 14 multimedia file format, commonly used for video files.

CD/DVD/BD Disc - Optical discs used for storing digital data, including Compact Discs (CDs), DVDs, and Blu-ray Discs (BD).
