Network Connection Test Fails

If any of the Network Connection Tests fail, run the test once or twice again. Some routers automatically fail the gateway ping the first time.

If you are unable to resolve this issue, reset the player and power cycle all components as described below.

Question:

How to troubleshoot connectivity issues with a Blu-ray player?

Answer:

Before making changes to any settings, try the following steps first to reset the BD Player and Power Cycle all components.  This will refresh IP and MAC addresses as needed and often resolves most issues.  If you're unable to connect to Netflix after the reset and power cycle, see possible causes and suggestions below.

Reset the Blu-ray Player and Power Cycle all Components.

  1. Remove the Ethernet Cable or Wireless Adapter from the player.
  2. Unplug the BD Player and press and hold the POWER button on the player for 20 seconds.
  3. Disconnect the power from both the router and the modem and let all devices sit unplugged for 2 minutes.
  4. Re-connect the power to the modem and turn it on.  Allow the modem to boot up completely and wait for all lights to illuminate.
  5. Re-connect the power to the router and turn it on.  Allow the router to boot up completely and wait for all lights to illuminate.
  6. Plug the BD Player back in and turn the power on.  Connect the Wireless Dongle or Ethernet Cable and allow to sit for 1-2 minutes before connecting to the network.

MAC Address Fails

MAC Address Fails and appears as all zeros

Unplug the player for a few minutes and then plug it back in.  If this doesn't resolve the issue, reset the player as described below.

To Reset the Player

With the power on and no disc in the player, press and hold the FF button on the front panel for 5 seconds. The language screen will appear and all settings will revert back to factory settings.

What is a MAC address?

In computer networking, a MAC address (Media Access Control address) is a unique identifier assigned to most network adapters or network interface cards by the manufacturer for identification. If assigned by the manufacturer, a MAC address usually encodes the manufacturer's registered identification number. It may also be known as an Ethernet Hardware Address (EHA), hardware address, adapter address, or physical address.

  • Make sure the BD Player is within range of your wireless Access Point.
  • Obstructions such as thick walls and floors and obstacles placed between an Access Point and wireless device will create signal loss. Leaded glass, metal, concrete floors and walls will inhibit the signal and reduce range. Try moving the router to a higher location.
  • Interference from other radio devices. Try using different channels on the router. 1, 6 and 11 are recommended.
