Question:
Why is my Blu-ray player having trouble connecting
to Netflix through my router, even though it connects fine when connected directly
to my modem?
Answer:
Since
your movie is playing back properly when your Blu-ray player is connected directly
to your modem, this tells us your modem and Blu-ray player are working but the
issue lies with the router.
You
may need to update the firmware on your router or reconfigure its settings
so that it allows your Blu-ray player to access the Netflix Server. For example,
some routers will place the Samsung player on a DOS (Denial Of Service) list
and prevent Netflix activation but still allow the player firmware to be updated.
Each
manufacturer has a unique configuration tool, along with documentation and instructions
for configuring your network. To enter the configuration tool, you must open
your web browser and enter the router’s IP address in the address bar. You will
need to know the user name and password to enter your routers configuration
page. The default username and password varies by manufacturer, often the username
is left blank and the password is admin, or vice versa. Check the bottom of
the router for default settings or check the documentation that came with the
router.
Due
to the multiple router manufacturers, router configuration and liability, we
can only provide general information, however, here’s a list of popular router
manufacturer sites that offer technical support. If your routers manufacturer
is not listed here, please perform a search using your favorite search engine.

Issues
have been reported with the following routers:
Belkin
Wired/ Wireless Routers:
Observation:
When attempting a connection to Netflix, the Belkin Router places the Samsung
device on a DOS (Denial Of Service) list and prevents activation.
Solution:
We have found that if you disable the firewall on the Router, activate the player
and then successfully play a Watch Instantly title you can re-enable the firewall
with no further issues.
Atheros
Modem/ Wireless Router:
Observation:
We have found that this Router allows firmware updates on the Blu-ray player
but does not allow a connection to Netflix.
Solution:
Bypass the router and connect
directly to the ISP (Internet Service Provider) modem. You can also check the
manufacturer website for any recent firmware updates. Please contact your Router manufacturer or ISP
for further troubleshooting on their device.
Dynex
DXWGRTR:
Observation:
This device would not allow a connection to Netflix. The player may be placed
on its DOS list (Denial Of Service) or a firewall may be blocking your Blu-ray
player from reaching the Netflix Server.
Solution:
If you can successfully load the Netflix Watch Instantly Queue when connected
directly to your modem but not your router, please contact Dynex for further
troubleshooting as to what is blocking the connection.
