Question:

How to troubleshoot common issues with my modem?

Answer:

You will have to contact your ISP regarding any of the indicators, but we provide an explanation for each below. Sometimes a simple reset can often fix the problem, however, due to the number and age of nurmerous modems we advise you check the accompanying literature included with your modem, your ISP website or your ISP. Since this is a third party device we do not have the available troubleshooting.

  • Power: Ensure your modem is powered on. If it doesn't turn on, the modem may need to be replaced.
  • DS: Check if the DS LED is solid in color. If not, there's an issue with your modem setup. Contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP) about this issue, as it affects your ability to download content.
  • Upstream:  Verify that the Upstream LED is functioning properly. Just like DS, this LED represents your ability to upload data to the internet. Contact your ISP if there's a problem.
  • Online: Confirm that your modem has an online signal. If not, try resetting it or contacting your ISP, as this issue prevents establishing a connection with them.
  • Link: Check if the Link LED is active, indicating that the Ethernet connection is detected by the modem.

    Terms:

LED - Light Emitting Diode (a type of light used for indication)

DS - Downstream (the flow of data from the internet to your modem)

Upstream (the flow of data from your modem to the internet)

Ethernet (a technology for connecting devices within a local network)
