Question:
How to troubleshoot a router that is not connecting
to the internet?
Answer:
Your router
may not have an internet connection if it's not connected to the modem properly. While we can't provide specific troubleshooting steps on third party devices,
we can go over the general connections.
- Look
at the back of your router and check that there is power going to it. Also
check for a power button to make sure the power is turned on. Not all
routers have a power button, if you're not sure, refer to the accompanying
literature of your router.
- Look for the 'WAN' or 'Internet' port on the back of your router. This is
where the ethernet cable that is coming from your modem should be connected,
and it is the only port that will work.

- Finally,
check the indicator lights on the front of your router, you should have
3 solid indicators showing your router status. The image below shows
a general setup of the main indicator lights that must be lit, colors may
differ depending on your router model or brand. Refer to the accompanying
literature that came with your router or contact the router manufacturer
for assistance.

- If
your router still doesn't connect to the internet, the problem may
be caused by a variety of reasons. Check the bottom of your router
for model information, and then contact your router manufacturer for
further troubleshooting on their device. These reasons may include,
but are not limited to:
- Your
modem is not connected properly (cable line).
- Internet
Service is not available (ISP)
- The
ethernet cable is failing.
- Your
router is failing.

your router now shows an internet connection, click here to go back to 'Power
