Question:
Why am I not able to connect to the internet?
Answer:
Your
modem may not have an internet connection if it's not connected properly.
While we can't provide specific troubleshooting steps on third party devices,
we can go over the general connections.
- Look at the back of your modem and check that there is power going
to it. Also check for a power button to make sure the power is turned on.
Not all modems have a power button, if you're not sure, refer to the
accompanying literature of your modem.
- Next
look for a COAX connection if you have a cable modem, or a phone line if you're
using
a DSL modem. The connection will come from the wall to the back of your
modem. This is the main connection, without
it you will not have internet access.

- Next
check the indicator lights on the front of the modem, you should have 4
solid indicators showing your modem status. The image below shows
a general setup of the main indicator lights that must be lit, colors may
differ depending on your router model or brand. Refer to the accompanying
literature that came with your modem or contact your ISP (Internet Service
Provider).
- If
your modem still doesn't connect to the internet, the problem may be
caused by a variety of reasons. Check the back or bottom of your modem
for the model number and contact your ISP for further troubleshooting on
their device. The reasons why it may be failing include, but are not limited to:
- Internet
service is not available.
- Coax/phoneline
connection is failing.
- Modem
is failing.
- Finally,
if all the indicator lights are illuminated check that you have either an Ethernet cable or USB cable connected
from your Cable/DSL modem to your router. Click here to go back to 'Power
Cycling All Components' and continue troubleshooting.
