The FCC had a mandated switch over to 100% digital broadcasting in July 2009. Because of that change over there won't be any over-the-air analog broadcasts. Beacuse of the change most manufacturers have stopped placing analog tuners in their recording devices and are either using digital tuners or not adding a tuner at all. So there are now 3 types of recording devices out there:

• Recording devices with a digital tuner (ATSC).
• Recording devices with no tuners.
• Older recording devices with only the analog (NTSC) tuner.

This section deals with all 3 types of recording devices and the most common connection method for each.
