Question:
How
to perform a Factory Reset on a 2008 model television?
Answer:
Background
Technicians resolve many TV service
calls by entering the service menu and performing a Factory Reset. Now, all
2008 model televisions have a Factory Reset feature you can use to reset your
TV to the factory settings without entering the service menu.
Important: When you perform a Factory Reset, all your settings revert to
factory defaults. These settings include all picture and sound settings, all
channel menu settings including memorized channels, all clock and timer
settings, and any other settings you made through the menu. In addition, if you
had your TV professionally calibrated, you may lose the calibration settings
if the calibration was not done through the service menu.
When
to Perform a Factory Reset
Important: Be sure to go through all other troubleshooting steps before
performing a factory reset. The factory reset should be the last thing you do
before setting the TV up for service.
Before
you perform a Factory Reset, do all of the following:
- Check the trouble shooting guide for
articles addressing your problem. To go to the Main Troubleshooting page,
click
here.
- Check
the FAQs for articles addressing your problem. To go to the FAQ page, click here.
- If
possible, check the settings of the devices connected to the TV to make sure
they are operating correctly.
- Make
sure all cables are firmly connected to the correct input and output jacks. Replace old cables with new cables to ensure
the problem is not caused by cable defects.
- Unplug
the TV, and then plug it back in to do a "Soft Reset".
- If
the problem is picture related, use the Picture Settings Reset function in the
Picture Menu to reset the picture settings. To view instructions for using the
Picture Settings Reset function, click
here.
- Check
if the problem occurs across multiple inputs.
- If
the problem only occurs on one input, test another device on that input to
determine if the problem is caused by the device or TV. If the problem
is caused by the device, contact the manufacturer of that device for further
support.
- If
the problem occurs across multiple inputs or you determine the problem is
caused by the TV, perform a Factory Reset.
How
to Perform a Factory Reset
To perform a Factory Reset, follow these

for 10 seconds.

- The Factory Reset screen appears displaying a warning
message. Understand that all your settings revert to factory settings if
you run the Factory Reset function.
