Question:

How to perform a factory reset on my 2008 model television and when should I do it?

Answer:

Background

Many service calls are fixed simply by the servicer performing a "Factory Reset". Now, all 2008 model televisions have a Factory Reset feature that can be performed without going into the service menu.

It should be noted that performing a Factory Reset will erase all of your settings. These settings include all picture and sound settings, all channel menu settings including memorized channels, all clock and timer settings, and anything else you had to set in the menu.

When to Perform a Factory Reset

Be sure to go through all other troubleshooting before performing a factory reset. In other words, the factory reset should be the last thing you do before setting the TV up for service.

A Factory Reset should only be preformed after all of the following have been checked:

  1. Check all TV audio settings in the menu.
  2. If possible, check the settings in the device connected to the TV.
  3. Check if the problem occurs across multiple inputs.
  4. If the issue only occurs on one input, test another device on that input.
  5. Check all connection cables, including testing new cables to check for cable defects.
  6. Unplug the TV, and then plug it back in to do a ‘Soft Reset’.

How to Perform a Factory Reset
