PROTECTION MODE ON HOME THEATRE SYSTEM

There are occurrences where a customer will experience his Home Theatre showing the following message when turned on: “Protection” followed (for some models) by “Shutting Off”.

This is a heat protection feature. The function will come on if:

1-      The main unit or power transformer overheats;

2-      Speaker terminal is shorted;

3-      Speaker cable is shorted (wires connecting cables to speakers are touching each other);

Troubleshooting tips:

Guide the customer into:

1-      Checking all connecting cables between the Main Unit (receiver) and the speakers: make sure they are not loose or touching each other (“+” cable touching the “–“ cable at the post)

2-      Turn off the unit, unplug delicately all wires from behind the main unit (at the speakers terminal point)

3-      Turn the unit back on and check if the PROTECTION message shows up again.

a.      If it does not, one speaker wire is shorting. Check all the speaker cables.

b.      If it still does, there is a possible issue with the unit: service may be required in this case.
