Storing the Washer in Freezing Temperatures

Question:

How to Prepare Your Washer for Storage in Freezing Temperatures

Answer:

If the washer is stored in an area where freezing can occur, please follow these instructions to prevent damage to the washer:

  1. Turn off the water supply valves.
  1. Disconnect the hoses from the water supply and drain the water from the hoses.
  1. Plug the electrical cord into a properly grounded electrical outlet.
  1. Add 1 gallon of nontoxic recreational vehicle (RV) anti-freeze into the empty wash tub and close the door.
  1. Run a Spin Only cycle for 2-3 minutes. Not all of the RV anti-freeze will be expelled.
  1. Stop the Spin Only cycle.
  1. Dry the interior wash tub and close the door. Unplug the power cord.
  1. Store the washer in an upright position.
  1. To remove the antifreeze from the washer after it has been stored, run a complete cycle (with detergent) while the washer is still empty.

    • Do not add clothes to the washer until you have run a complete cycle first without clothes because they could be damaged by any residual anti-freeze.
