Washer door won't Open or Unlock

Question:

Why won't my washer door open or unlock after the cycle is finished?

Answer:

If your washer's door is locked, it could be caused by a couple different factors. Please perform the following to find the cause of the problem:

  • Make sure the wash cycle is complete. Check if the timer has expired and the water has fully drained.
  • If the washer is off, turn it on. The washer should make a clicking sound, and the door should unlock.
  • Check if Child Lock is activated. On some models, Child Lock will lock the door. This is to prevent children from opening the door and potentially getting hurt.

Refer customer to user's manual for instructions if control panel below does not match customer's washer.

  • Drain the emergency hose. Front load models will lock the door while water is detected inside the washer (so water will not spill over on your floor). The emergency drain hose is located by the debris filter, make sure to advise customer to use a bucket to drain the water in..
  1. Open the filter cover.
  1. Unscrew the emergency drain cap by turning it to the left, and drain all the water.
  1. Unscrew the filter cap, and take it out.

  • When the emergency drain hose no longer has any water coming out, turn the washer off and back on again. This time the door should unlock.

NOTE
Some older front load models do not have a debris filter, which means they will not have an emergency drain hose.

If that does not solve the issue, SET UP for service.
