Answer:

1.  What's the part number on the water filter?

Please verify if the customer ordered the correct water filter part number.

 Ask for a picture of the replacement filter.

 Verify if the part number is correct.

 Make sure there is a Samsung logo on the filter.

Note: Customer must use genuine Samsung water filter, generic water filter might not fit and cause damage to the case assembly.

 Genuine VS Generic Water Filter:

 

If you compare the two filters above, they are not identical but they have the same part number: DA97-17376B

Pay attention to the circled locking tabs, the shape of the locking tabs are slightly different.

The tabs are the parts that hold and lock the filter in place.

The generic water filter might not fit and damage the filter case assembly, which might cause a leak or flood after installation.

When generic water filter is used, it damages the locking collar on the filter case assembly and prevents future water filter replacements.

Note: It is recommended to replace the water filter once every 6 month.

 

2.  Before installing the new water filter:

Make sure to turn OFF the fridge water supply, then press the water dispenser lever (if any) to release water pressure in the system.

Doing so will make the water filter installation smoother.

 

Removing the old water filter:

3.  If the new water filter leaks or doesn't fit, the case assembly needs to be replaced, service required.
