FOTA Software Update Not Received

PROBLEM :

FOTA Software Update Not Received

SOLUTION :

Check if software update is available

  1. Open Settings.

  2. Scroll down to Software update.

  3. Tap on Software update.

  4. Tap on Download and install

If a phone is not receiving a FOTA software update, it could be due to the following reasons:

Delivery Schedule

Samsung recommends waiting a few days (up to a week) to give the service provider time to roll out the update. Service providers schedule updates to be delivered in batches. It is possible that the update is not received immediately after the initial launch. Other variables that can impact delivery include how many devices are in need of the update and how large the update is.

Authenticate Software

A device may not be offered an update if the device is running on an unauthorized or custom ROM.

Verify Software Build

Depending on the configuration of the servers, it may not be possible to update to the latest software if a previously released update has been skipped or missed. For example, if a service provider is offering MR3 and the device is operating on MR1, the option to update may not be available because MR2 is needed to update to MR3.

  1. From the Home screen, select Menu, and then select Settings. Select About Phone, select Software information, and then select verify Baseband Version.

  2. Check the software version listed in Fastlink to ensure the most recent version has been installed.

  3. Try to access the Internet on your phone. If you can't access the Internet, you will not be able to receive updates via FOTA.

  4. Depending on the wireless provider, they may have the ability to update the mobile device software at a store location nearby.

  5. Samsung may have released a software update tool, which could be used to update the phone.

  6. The phone may be sent in to Samsung to have the latest software loaded.

Verify The Network Connection

Try to access the Internet on the phone. If there is no access to the internet through LTE services, updates may not be received from the service provider's network.

Third Party Task Killers

Depending on apps that are installed on the phone, the task killer client on the device may have stopped the OTA processes required to update the software. If a third-party task killer is running, it may need to be removed from the device temporarily to receive the update.

To remove third party application task killers:

Navigate to Settings, and then tap Apps. Select the task killer app, and then select Uninstall. Task killers can be reinstalled after the update is received. Restart the phone.

After it reboots, navigate to Settings, and then select System updates. If an update is available, you can install it from here.
