Transfer Data To A New Galaxy Phone With Smart Switch

PROBLEM 1: Transfer Data To A New Galaxy Phone With Smart Switch

Note: Samsung Smart Switch lets you seamlessly transfer all your content from your old phone to your new Galaxy phone. And you can even transfer from other Android, iOS, Windows, or Blackberry devices.

SOLUTION 1: Transfer Content with Wi-Fi

First, make sure the Smart Switch app is installed on both phones. Then, place the phones within 4 inches of each other.

Launch Smart Switch on both phones. If it is your first time using it, tap Agree, and then allow the different permissions. Tap Send data on the old phone, tap Receive data on the new phone, and then tap Wireless on both phones. On your new phone, you may have to select the type of your old phone.

Next, complete the connection by tapping Allow on the old phone. On your new phone, choose the content you want to move, and then tap Transfer. Once the transfer is complete, tap Done on the new phone.

SOLUTION 2: Transfer Content with a Cable

First, connect the two phones using the USB cable of the old phone and the USB-OTG adapter that came with your new Galaxy phone. Be sure to connect the adapter to the new phone.

Launch Smart Switch on both phones. Tap Send data on the old phone, tap Receive data on the new phone, and then tap Cable on both phones. On the old phone, tap Allow to complete the connection. Once it finishes scanning the old phone, select the data you want transferred on the new phone, and then tap Transfer. When finished, tap Done on the new phone, and tap Close on the old phone.

SOLUTION 3: Transfer Content with an External Storage

If you have photos saved on a microSD card, you can transfer them using Smart Switch too. Before you begin, insert the microSD card or USB OTG storage device into the old phone.

Launch Smart Switch on the old phone. Tap the SD card icon in the upper right corner, and then tap Back up. Select what you want to back up, and then tap Back up again. When it is complete, tap Done.

Next, insert the external storage device into the new Galaxy phone, and then launch Smart Switch. Tap the SD card icon, and then tap Restore. Select what you want to restore, and then tap Restore again. When it is complete, tap Done.

SOLUTION 4: Transfer Content with iCloud

With Smart Switch, you can transfer valuable data saved on your old iOS phone through iCloud.

Launch Smart Switch on the new Galaxy phone, and then tap Receive data. Tap Wireless, and then tap iPhone/iPad. Enter your Apple ID and password, and then tap Sign in. Enter the verification Code, and then tap OK. Select the data you want to transfer, tap Import, and then tap Import again.

Note: iTunes music and videos cannot be transferred from iCloud. Use Smart Switch for PC or Mac to transfer iTunes music.

SOLUTION 5: Transfer Content from Windows and Blackberry Phones

On the new Galaxy phone, tap Receive data, tap Wireless, and then tap Windows Phone/Blackberry. Next, you will see the steps to download the Smart Switch software on to your old device. Read the on-screen prompts to continue. Once complete, tap Connect on the old phone, and then select the network. Enter the password shown on your new Galaxy phone. Your data will now be transferred.

Note: For a wireless transfer, Mobile Hotspot is required.
