Galaxy Phone Performs Reset To Set Up Device For Carrier Settings

PROBLEM :

Galaxy phone performs reset to set up device for carrier settings

SOLUTION :

If your smartphone data gets erased after inserting a new SIM card, it is because of SIM profiling. You must first insert your SIM card before setting up your new device for the first time. If you set up your new device and then insert your SIM card, all your data will be erased. Ensure that your SIM or USIM card is inserted in your device.

Caution: When you proceed with the initial setup for the first time after inserting the SIM or USIM card, your device will perform a factory data reset. In this case, the data transferred from your previous device will be deleted.

Background on SIM profiling:

  • In order to retrieve the Carrier setup (Carrier SW environment), when the SIM is inserted for the first time, the device will perform a factory data reset and reorganize the SW environment to map to the carrier's requirement.

  • This process occurs only one time which is when the SIM is inserted for the first time.

  • If a user changes carriers and changes SIM cards, then SIM profiling will no longer occur. Carrier specific SW/apps will not be configured at this time.

  • SIM profiling will delete all the user data.
