PROBLEM 1: Different Types of Wi-Fi Security

SOLUTION 1:

Below are the different kinds of standard Wi-Fi security types:

  • WEP: This stands for 'Wired Equivalent Privacy' and is used to encrypt data while it is being transmitted wirelessly. WEP Keys are represented by either 5 or 13 hexadecimal characters (0-9 / A-F). Hexadecimal keys will never contain the letter O.

  • WPA / WPA 2: This stands for 'Wi-Fi Protected Access' and uses customizable passkey phrases which can contain alpha or numeric characters. These passkeys must be set by the routers administrator.

  • 802.1x EAP. This is primarily used for VPN systems and requires more advanced knowledge to successfully administrate.
