Question:

Some pictures or video files on Gallery are not visible after software upgrading to the latest version, One UI 3.1. It seems that those files were unintentionally erased. What should I do for this?

Answer:

Samsung is aware of this issue that occurs in certain situations on Galaxy devices after updating to One UI 3.1. The files in the Gallery were not actually deleted; they're just not visible because the software is having trouble reading their information. This problem will be fixed in future device software updates. In the meantime, follow these steps to clear the data of Sec Media Storage:

  • Go to Settings
  • Tap Apps
  • Tap the three dots icon (right menu)
  • Select Show system apps
  • Find and tap Sec Media Storage
  • Tap Force stop
  • Tap Storage
  • Tap Clear data
  • Restart your device

After doing this, open the Gallery app and wait for a few minutes (up to 15 minutes depending on the number of photos) to see if the files reappear.
