After making a call with proximity sensor covered, screen doesn't turn on even though device was taken away from face and proximity sensor was uncovered. Why is this?

Question:

Why doesn't the screen turn on after making a call with the proximity sensor covered and then uncovering it even though the device was taken away from my face?

Answer:

When you make a call without moving your device, the screen may not turn on. In full display mobile devices, the screen turns on based on both the object's distance from the proximity sensor and the device's tilt. If the device isn't moved or tilted when taken away from the face and the proximity sensor is uncovered, the screen won't turn on. This is normal for all Samsung full display mobile devices.

Terms:

Proximity sensor - A sensor that detects nearby objects (like your face during a call)

Full display - Refers to a phone screen that covers almost the entire front of the device

Tilt event - When the device is angled or tilted

Samsung - A brand of smartphones
