Question:

After One UI 5.0 (T OS) upgrading, I can see 'Maintenance mode' feature newly added in Device care menu.  What is Maintenance mode and What can I do with it?

Answer:

  • Maintenance mode is a setting mode to hide personal data and information by user on the device before leaving it to repair engineer for repairing service.
  • It protects users privacy and prevents personal data/information from leaking while someone else is using their phone such as when sending or leaving the device for repairs.
  • It creates a separate user account for accessing to a limited data and information which is excluded the personal data/information.
  • That method is using Multi User Mode(MUM) so that it provides another user account just for Maintenance mode.

The main function is as below.

  • Customer data protection (No access to photo / video, contact / message / call history and so on)
  • App usage restriction (Only the preload system apps are available, re-authentication and re-login are required to use the apps)
  •  Automatically deletes data and accounts generated during Maintenance mode

We recommend that user back up the personal data/information before turning on the mode just in case user data may be deleted or device may be factory reset due to unintentional incident or component replacement such as Main board while repairing.
