Question:

What changes are being made to the Samsung account system regarding country and region selection? How does this affect users?

 

Answer:

To provide users self change option for country information by themselves through client app or web channel.

  •  User : Users who are using Samsung account and need to proceed several consents such as terms and conditions, personal information, etc. under the laws and regulations of the relevant country because of moving the residence to other country.
  •  Country/Region : Global
  •  Device : Mobile Phone, Tablet / applied to all device with N OS or later version
  •  Available channel path : Client(app) on the device and Web(IAM/WIP)
  •  Progress schedule : Web distribution (Scheduled : on April 20th) in 2023 / Client app update scheduled in September

 

* Major function: Change country or region on Samsung account

* Changes: Make available self change the country information by user's choice through Samsung account client(app) / web

  Note:  Criteria of Samsung account country is changed from 'Sign-up country' to �Using Country'

[Policy - Condition of change country available]

  •  User can change �using country' information when user needs (But when user signs-up Samsung account, country will be determined by MCC)

 

[Conditions that change country is not available]

  1. When user try to change country within 180 days again after changing country
  2. When user's account is belonged in Family Group / Minor Account (Both parents/child account can change after withdrawal from family group)
  3. When user's account is belonged in Seller Account of Galaxy Store (User can request country change to Customer Center by call in this case)
  4. When user's account is progressing in the GDPR private right(processing restriction etc.) correspondence.
  5. When user's account has phone number ID only (User should register email ID of Samsung account)

 

[What is informed to user when user try to change the country]

  1.  Normal country code (ISO registered) case,   - Mobile : Show Badge in case of SIM card change  - Web : Show Badge when user logged in Samsung Account webpage in different country (Geo IP will be used to determined country)
  2.  Abnormal country code case,  -Mobile : Show badge, notification and Tip card until to change normal country code    - Web : Show Badge and information until to change normal country code

 

[Exceptional policy for China]

  •  Region or country change menu is not activated in China(as same current feature)
  •  China country name is not be shown in other country user's country change list

[Policy - relation between Samsung Account Client app and Web]

  1.  If the country is changed through the Samsung account client app or the Samsung account web, all clients app and webs logged in to the account becomes logged out from multi-devices.
  2.  If users log in after completing the country change and log out, the country is changed on all devices.

 

[Registration of two-step verification information]

  • If the country is changed because of changing the mobile SIM card change, the two-step verification information must be registered before the country change.

 

[Marketing Policy based on Samsung Account]

  •  The Samsung account-based service can send marketing materials by referring to the marketing receiving agreement of the country of use.
  •  Marketing materials can be sent only for the country of use, and if user wants to receive marketing materials from another country that user agreed with receiving marketing materials already, user must change the country of use.
  •  Samsung account-based services shall immediately stop marketing activities upon withdrawal of Samsung account and withdrawal of marketing receiving agreement
  •  If users agree to receive marketing materials from other Samsung services, it follows the other service's own policy. In this case, Samsung services can send marketing materials who agreed with Samsung account's marketing receiving and Samsung service's marketing receiving.

[Informing of country setting with tip card, badge, notification]
