Question:

How do I access my data on a Galaxy device with a broken screen?

Answer:

If the screen of your Galaxy device is damaged or does work properly and you can't see or touch the screen to operate and back up on the device, you can operate or back up from connected external display(monitor, TV, etc.) through screen mirroring.

It is only supported on the Galaxy device with Android OS 12 or later version and Samsung DeX supported.

[Preparation to use]

1) Galaxy phone (with broken screen) (* Android OS 12 or later version, Samsung DeX supported models)

2) USB-C to HDMI hub or adapter (with USB-A port)

3) External display(supported HDMI port), HDMI cable

4) Mouse and Keyboard (wire/wireless)

5) New phone

[How to back up]

1) Connect the Monitor, Mouse and Keyboard to HDMI hub or adapter (Monitor to HDMI, Mouse/Keyboard to USB-A port).

2) Connect the Galaxy phone(with broken screen) to HDMI hub or adapter (to USB-C port) while pressing and holding the volume up/down buttons of the Galaxy phone simultaneously (you can release the buttons once your phone is connected).

3-1) If the phone screen is mirrored to the monitor, unlock it with your mouse or keyboard and run the Smart Switch app.

3-2) If the Samsung DeX screen appears on the monitor, tab Apps menu in the bottom left corner > tab Exit DeX to switch to the mirrored screen and run the Smart Switch app.

4) Run the Smart Switch both on the old and new phone and proceed the step to send/receive the data

  - Smart Switch on the old phone(with broken screen) > tab 'Send data' > tab 'Wireless'

  - Smart Switch on the new phone > tab 'Receive data' > tab 'Galaxy' > tab 'Wireless'
