 Question
Can pregnant women not measure their blood
pressure with a Samsung health monitor? Why is that?

Answer
In the case of pregnant women, there is a prior
study that the blood pressure measurement using a commercial cuff type blood
pressure meter is less accurate. Therefore, when calibrating with a cuff type
blood pressure meter with low accuracy, the results of output from the Samsung
Health Monitor app will also not be accurate. Also, there is a big hormonal
change during pregnancy, so blood vessel characteristics are different from
ordinary people. Our blood pressure measurement method uses PPG signals that
are affected by blood vessel characteristics, and the current algorithm does
not reflect the effects of changes in blood vessel characteristics caused by
hormonal changes during pregnancy, thus limiting the measurement of pregnant
women.
