Problem
Washer Making A Thumping
or Knocking Sound When Filling Up.
Solution 1
When a washer fills up with water, the water
valves (electric water tap) open and close to control the water level.
Appliance water valves use solenoid technology
to open and close, and a solenoid valve can only open all the way instantly
or close all the way instantly, it does not open slowly or partially.
Therefore, if the pipes in the customers drywalls
are loose, the water valves might cause the pipes in the drywall to vibrate
due to the instant opening and closing, causing a back pressure.
This is called water hammer and there are a
few things that customer can try to reduce the noise.
Water Hammer

1. Adjust the water taps to reduce
the water pressure and back pressure.
a) First, make sure the hoses behind
the machine are secured, and not vibrating against the wall, zip tie them together
if necessary.
b) Now turn ON the washer and select
the "quick wash" cycle.
c) Now wait for the washer to start
filling, hold both water hoses to figure out which water valve is activated
(cold or hot)

d) When the cold water valve is
activated, close the cold water tap completely, then reopen it slowly to allow
just enough water to pass through.

e) Do the same for the hot water
tap or vice versa.
Warning: If
the error code 4C appears, it means the water pressure is too low, or the taps
are closed completely for longer than 5 minutes, they must be reopened slightly.
SOLUTION 2:
If the above steps didn't solve the issue,
then a "Water Hammer Arrestor" needs to be installed by a licensed
plumber.
Water Hammer Arrestor is designed to absorb
back pressure, this will prevent the pipes in the dry wall from vibrating or
shaking.
