PROBLEM :
Buzzing or Humming Noise
General Information
- Usually, buzzing sounds come from the back of the fridge.
- Buzzing or humming sounds could be coming from water line, the compressor, or the fan.
- It is normal for a fridge to buzz or hum a little, but the decibel level should be between 32 and 47 decibels. If the decibel level is higher, there may be a possible issue. You can test the decibel level using a decibel meter app, which you can download from Google Play or Galaxy Store.
SOLUTION 1A:
Too Close to the Wall
The clearance around the refrigerator should be at least 2 inches. This will allow for proper ventilation and will prevent the fridge from making buzzing sounds.
- Move the fridge forward approximately 2 inches away from the wall. If the noise goes away, that indicates the fridge was coming into contact with another object, such as the water line or wall.
SOLUTION 1B:
Check The Water Line
First, please verify that the water line is properly connected and that water is being supplied to the fridge.
If the water line is NOT properly connected or working, perform the following steps:
- The water valve and ice maker gear in your fridge will make a buzzing or humming sound if something is wrong with the water line. Please reconnect the water line and make sure water is being supplied to your fridge.
- You can also turn off the ice maker to prevent this sound from occurring.
WARNING: If the water is not connect, do NOT press down on the dispenser level. This will eventually ruin the water valve and could eventually prevent the water dispenser and ice maker from working.
If the water line IS properly connected or working, perform the following steps:
- First, please try to recognize where exactly the sound is coming from.
- If it sounds like it's coming from the back of your fridge, please check that your incoming water line is secured because it may be loose.
- It's also possible that the water dispenser's water pressure is too high. Please try lower the water pressure by turning down the water valve. If the sound continues after you've decreased the pressure, please schedule service.
- If the sounds stops when the Fridge or Freezer door is opened, the noise might be coming from the compressor.
SOLUTION 1C:
Sounds from the Compressor
The sound might be coming from your fridge's compressor. Most new fridge models have an inverter variable speed compressor. To save energy, the compressor changes its speed based on the operation it's performing. When the compressor does this, it might create sounds that are louder than usual. These sounds are normal and service is NOT required.
*If the sound does NOT stop when the Fridge or Freezer door is opened and you do not think it is the compressor, the sound might be from the fan. If you suspect it is the fan, please set up service.
