Rattling Sounds

Question:

What are some common causes and solutions for rattling sounds coming from my refrigerator?

Answer:

Loose Hinge Bolts/Cover Screws: If you've recently removed the doors, the hinge bolts or cover screws might be loose, causing the rattling sound. Tighten them using a screwdriver.

Frost Accumulation: Excess frost in the freezer can obstruct fan operation, leading to rattling noise. Defrost the freezer and remove any remaining ice. Take steps to prevent future frost buildup.

Fridge in Contact with Objects: Move the refrigerator about 2 inches forward. If the noise stops, it was likely touching something like a water line or wall.

Terms:

Hinge Bolts - Screws that attach the door hinges to the refrigerator frame.

Cover Screws - Screws that secure the hinge covers in place.

Frost - A frozen coating formed by the freezing of moisture on surfaces.

Fans - Devices used to circulate air inside the refrigerator.
