Refrigerator panel will not respond

PROBLEM 1:

Refrigerator panel will not respond

SOLUTION 1:

Whenever your refrigerator panel is not working, the refrigerator's temperature and other settings will maintain the same, so your food doesn't spoil. Correcting the issue with your panel may be as easy as turning off Child Lock or cycling the power.

  • Make sure the panel is not locked. The most common cause for a panel not responding is that the lock is engaged. Every Samsung refrigerator has a lock of some sort, either Child Lock, Control Lock, or even Dispenser Lock. Family Hub also has a parental control setting to lock access to certain apps and functions.

  • Power cycle the refrigerator. On most models, this will mean unplugging the refrigerator or turning power off at the circuit breaker for 60 seconds, then restoring power.

On Family Hub models, there is a switch for the panel that you should use instead, located at the inside top of the top-right door. Push open the small panel to find the switch inside.

After turning the refrigerator back on again, give it time to boot up before trying the panel again. f the issue continues, request service.

PROBLEM 2:

Refrigerator control panel is blank

SOLUTION 2:

If the issue has been occurring since the last time the doors were reattached, service is not required. The issue is probably due to the wiring harness not being properly connected. Instructions can be found in the user manual in the section for reattaching the doors.

Otherwise, please follow the instructions based on the problem you are having:

Completely or partially blank

  • Touch the panel or open the door. If the panel lights up, nothing is wrong with your fridge. The panel goes blank when inactive. This is normal. Some panels will have select icons still lit when inactive; other icons will only light when active.

  • Verify that Sabbath mode is not turned on (applicable models only).

  • Unplug the fridge or shut off power at the circuit breaker for 60 seconds, and then restore power. Family Hub models should turn off the display using the switch at the top of the inside of the upper right door.

  • If the issue continues, request service.

A single icon is not working

  • Touch the panel or open the door. If the panel lights up, nothing is wrong with your fridge. The panel goes blank when inactive. This is normal. Some panels will have select icons still lit when inactive; other icons will only light when active.

  • Verify that Child Lock is not turned on. If a particular icon won't light, it might be because the function is locked by Child Lock.

  • Unplug the unit or shut off power at the circuit breaker for 60 seconds and then restore power.

  • If the issue continues, request service.

Note: If the lights do not come on when the door is opened, and the refrigerator is not cooling, see our guide for Refrigerator Has No Power.
