The FCC mandated switch to 100% digital broadcasting happened June 17th, 2009. This means that there are no longer analog over-the-air broadcasts. Beacuse of this most manufacturers have already stopped putting analog tuners in their recording devices and are either putting digital tuners in or not putting any type of tuner in at all. So there are now 3 types of recording devices out there:

  • Recording devices with a digital tuner (ATSC).
  • Recording devices with no tuners.
  • Older recording devices with only the analog (NTSC) tuner.

This section deals with all 3 types of recording devices and gives the most common connection method for each.

Important: Please make sure you know which type of recording device you have before starting.
