Question:

How can I fix image retention on my LED TV?

Answer:

Image retention on an LED TV occurs when an image gets stuck or burned into the screen. Depending on the severity, you may be able to eliminate it using certain techniques. Calibration DVDs, available at many electronic stores, can help optimize the video signal from your DVD player to the TV. These DVDs contain various test patterns, including one that flashes between a black and white screen, turning every pixel from "full on" to "full off." This cycling process can potentially remove minor image retention issues. However, major retention issues may not be repairable. Note that Samsung does not officially endorse or support calibration DVDs.

Technical Terms:

Image Retention - When an image stays visible on the screen even after it has been turned off.

Calibration DVD - A disc used to adjust the picture quality by testing various patterns.

Pixel - Smallest unit of a digital image, responsible for color and brightness.

Full On / Full Off - States of a pixel representing maximum brightness (white) and minimum brightness (black).
