Testing Your Remote Control and Remote Sensor

Question:

How can I test my remote control and the remote sensor on my TV?

Answer:

Testing Your Remote Control and Remote Sensor

To test your remote control and the remote control sensor on your TV,  perform one or both of the following tests:

Digital Camera Test

You can test the remote with a digital camera (including camera phones).

To test the remote with a digital camera, follow these steps:

  1. Turn your camera on.
  2. Aim the remote at the lens of the camera from about 6-10 inches away.
  3. Press any button on the remote. You will see the IR (infrared) sensor of the remote flashing on the LCD screen of your camera if the remote is working properly.
  • If you are able to see the IR sensor flashing on the remote, then the remote is working.
    • The problem is in the remote sensor on the TV and it will need to be serviced.
    • Click the "Create Online Service Request" button below to begin the service process.
  • If you are unable to see the IR sensor flashing on the remote, then you have a defective remote control and your remote needs to be replaced.
    • Click here to visit Samsung's authorized parts distributor, J&J International to purchase a replacement remote control.
    • If your TV is still covered under the manufacturer's warranty, click the "Create Online Service Request" button below to request a free replacement remote control.
      • Please have the model and serial number of your TV on hand.

Test Another Remote On This TV

To test a second remote on the TV, follow these steps:

  1. Make sure that the second remote is in the TV mode.
  2. Press the Power button on the remote and see if it turns the TV on.
    • If the TV does not turn on, the problem is in the remote sensor on the TV and it will need to be serviced.
      • Click the "Create Online Service Request" button below to begin the service process.
    • If the TV does turn on, you have a defective remote control and your remote needs to be replaced.
      • Click here to visit Samsung's authorized parts distributor, J&J International to purchase a replacement remote control.
      • If your TV is still covered under the manufacturer's warranty, click the "Create Online Service Request" button below to request a free replacement remote control.
