When a customer is using a set-top-box it is very common that the aspect ratio on the STB box gets changed and the customer is unable to adjust it and blames the problem on the TV.

Below are some of the most common ways to adjust the aspect ratio on the most common STB's.

Important:

Samsung does not support these cable boxes these are given as a courtesy.

If you are unable to resolve the customer’s problem with these steps direct the customer to contact their cable company for further assistance.

Before adjusting the aspect ratio on the cable box you must first know a few things:

  • Type of set-top-box. (SD or HD, and Scientific Atlanta, Motorola, DirecTV, etc.)
  • Connection method.(HDMI, Component, Composite, etc.)
  • Aspect ratio TV is set to.(16:9, Just Scan, 4:3, Zoom, etc.)

Note: To be able to adjust the aspect ratio on a cable box the box must be an HD box, SD boxes do not have aspect ratio adjustments.

  1. Confirm that the customers television is set to the 16:9 aspect ratio.

  2. Find out if the picture is stretched, cropped (zoomed), or has bars.

  3. Depending on which STB the customer has the procedure will be different.
