Subject:  Adjusting Aspect Ratio on DirecTV Set-Top Boxes

DirecTV distributes a number of set-top-boxes to its customers.

Some of the more common models are the:

  • HD H21
  • H20-600C
  •  R-15
  • SIR-TS360

Adjusting the Aspect Ratio

There are usually two ways to adjust the aspect ratio on DirecTV boxes:

  • Using the short cut button on the remote
  • Using the on-screen menu.

Both methods are described below.

Using the Short Cut Button On The Remote

To cycle through the available aspect ratios, press the [Format] button on the top of the remote control repeatedly.

Each time you press the [Format] button, the aspect ratio changes.

Note:

In most cases, when you change the aspect ratio this way, your TV will not display text on the screen indicating which aspect ratio your set-top-box is displaying.

To determine the aspect ratio, you must look at the picture.

Using the On-Screen Menu

To adjust the aspect ratio using the on-screen menu, follow these steps:

  1. Press the [Menu] button on the remote.
  2. Use the [Down] arrow to highlight the “Parentals, Fav’s & Setup” menu item, and then press [Select]
  3. Use the [Down] arrow to highlight “System Setup”, and then press [Select].
  4. Use the [Down] arrow to highlight the “HDTV” menu item, and then press [Select].
  5. Use the [Down] arrow to highlight “Screen Format”, and then press [Select].
  6. Highlight the desired format, and then press [Select].
  7. Press [Exit].
