Question:
Using
A DVD Player Or Gaming System?
Answer:
Video quality from a DVD player or gaming system is dependent on three factors:
- The quality of your
connection.
- The resolution at which the DVD player or gaming system is set.
- The resolution at which the media (game or DVD) is recorded.
To improve the picture from your DVD player or gaming system, review the
information about the three factors below.
Connection Quality
If you connect your DVD player or gaming system to this TV using a Composite A/V connection, the TV can not display its best quality picture.
To
improve the picture, Samsung strongly recommends that you connect your DVD player
or gaming system with a Component (Y, Pr, Pb) or HDMI connection.
The Resolution at which the
DVD Player or Gaming System is Set
This TV accepts all resolutions up to 1080p (480i, 480p,
720p, 1080i, and 1080p from lowest to highest).
The higher you set the output resolution
on your DVD player or gaming system, the clearer the picture appears.
As
both DVD players and gaming systems look best on this TV at 1080p, you should
set the output of your DVD player or gaming system to 1080p.
If your DVD player or gaming system does not support this resolution,
set it to the highest resolution that is available to you.
If you do not know
how to set the resolution, consult the DVD player or gaming system owners
manual.
The Resolution at which the
Media is Recorded
Standard DVDs do not look as good as HD DVDs or Blu-Ray discs
because they are recorded at 480p (Enhanced Definition or ED).
In contrast, High
Definition is 720p, 1080i, or 1080p.
To get true HD quality to your TV from a DVD
player, you need a Blu-Ray player and Blu-Ray discs or an HD-DVD player and HD-DVD
discs.
Note on Up-Converting DVD Players:
Up-converting DVD players are not true
HD and do not read HD-DVD or Blu-ray discs.
They can only play standard
DVD's. Even though you have the ability to change the resolution of the DVD
player, the picture quality does not change
significantly.
The TV is already
scaling the image and more often than not, the TV has a better scaler than the
DVD player.
Additional Troubleshooting
If you are experiencing problems like pixelization, tiling, or lines through
the screen, try the following:
- Change to another DVD or game. If the problem goes away, the problem
is not caused by the TV.
- Test another gaming system or DVD player on the same input. You can also try hooking the DVD player
or gaming system (with
the same connection cables) to another TV.
- If the problem follows the DVD player, your
issue is with the DVD player and not the TV.
