Subject:  Dynamic Contrast

Contrast can be defined as "The ratio of the luminance from the brightest color (white) to that of the darkest color (black)".

Your TV will have two different numbers for contrast ratio; Typical and Dynamic.

Typical Contrast Ratio: Is a measurement of what the panel is capable of producing by itself.

Dynamic Contrast Ratio: Is a measurement of what the panel can produce with help from features like:

  • Backlight diming.
  • DNie (Digital Natural Image engine) Video processor.

This setting can be set to: Off, Low, Medium, and High.

Setting this option can enhance or degrade the picture.

If the setting is set too high it can "crush" the blacks making them darker than they should be.

If not set high enough the blacks and other colors may appear to light or washed out.
