Dishwasher not Cleaning Dishes [Food Particles, Stains and Rusts Remain on Dishes, White Water Mark Residue, Dirty Filter, Suds, Rinse Aid, Loading, Water Temperature, Self-Clean and Maintenance]

PROBLEM:

Dishwasher is Not Cleaning Properly

SOLUTION:

Water temperature must be minimum 120F (49C)

1. Is customer rinsing/scraping large food chunks before loading the machine?

Rinsing the dishes helps soften the food particles and results to better performance; just a quick rinse is good enough.

2. Is the drain filter clean?

If NO, see "C. How to clean the dishwasher filter" below.

Food particles in the filter might end up on the dishes if not cleaned frequently.

Warning: Does not apply to Models without filter (DW80J302* / DW80F800*)

3. Is the customer using rinse aid?

Rinse Aid (blue liquid) helps clean and dry the dishes better. Use rinse aids such as Finish Jet Dry. Use only liquid-type rinse aid.

4. How full was the dishwasher, and what cycle did customer use when they had this issue?

Small load use Express 60 / Medium load use Normal / Large loads use Heavy

5. What type of detergent is customer using?

For the best cleaning results, use an enzyme-based detergent such as Finish Powerball.

Pods or tabs have the best performance. Powders and gels have the worst performance.

6. Is customer washing plastic products?

If yes, they must be rated dishwasher safe.

7. Is customer washing large pots/dishes?

Dishes should not block the spray arms or dispenser door.

8. Is any utensil on the dishwasher floor or sticking out of the baskets?

Dishes should not interfere with the spray arms or vane assembly.

9. Make sure the water coming to the dishwasher is hot enough.

The temperature should be between 120 degrees F (49 degrees C) and 150 degrees F (65 degrees C).

Ask customer to start the Express cycle and wait for the unit to fill up (5 minutes), once filled, open the door slowly, and check if steam is coming off the water.

If NO, it means water from their water tank is not hot enough.

 10.  Is the customer loading the racks the way it's designed to?

Ask customer to refer to the user manual to learn the proper way of loading a dishwasher.

11. Is customer using a dishwasher cleaner once every 3 month?

It is recommended to clean the interior of the dishwasher once every 3 months using a dishwasher cleaner like Affresh and select the "Heavy" cycle + "Sanitize".

12. Was the dispenser opened and empty at the end of the cycle?

If NO, Set up a service call

Note:

  • How to Load the Dishwasher (In the user manual):
  1. Do not overload the dishwasher.
  2. Make sure the dishes are loaded properly. If the dishwasher is improperly loaded, the nozzles will hit the dishes and will not spin. Rearrange the dishes so the nozzles spin properly.
  3. You can see if they are spinning correctly by turning them with your hand before or after a cycle.
  4. Load large or tall items at the sides and back of the dishwasher, so they don't block the water or detergent from reaching other dishes.
  5. Use the top rack for plastic and delicate items that are dishwasher safe.
  6. If the lower rack is empty, it is still recommended to place smaller items only on the upper rack.
  7. Face the dirtiest side of each dish toward the center of the dishwasher.
  8. Pre-rinse dishes manually, so there are no food particles.
  9. Do not let dishes sit out for an extended period of time before washing them and do not let food particles harden.
  10. Make sure no large objects or utensils are obstructing the detergent dispenser door from opening properly.

B. Cleaning and Maintenance:

  • Clean the inside of the dishwasher on a regular basis. Use the Sanitize cycle to increase the water temperature in your dishwasher to 150 degrees F.
  • If the unit is a Water wall model, remember to clean the Fine Filter.
  • Make sure the dishwasher is connected to a hot water source. The temperature should be between 120 degrees F (49 degrees C) and 150 degrees F (65 degrees C).
  • Check if the nozzles are clogged. Clogged nozzles hamper the dishwasher's ability to clean dishes properly.
  • Debris will decrease water flow and reduce cleaning performance if it blocks the outlet holes (jets) in the spray nozzles. Clean the affected nozzles.
  • Once every 3 months, use a dishwasher cleaner like Affresh (follow instruction on the product package).
  • Then select the "Heavy" cycle with "Sanitize" option or Self-Clean cycle if available.
  • The Sanitize option will increase the water temperature up to 150F.

C.   How to clean the dishwasher filter:

Warning: Does not apply to Models without filter (DW80J302* / DW80F800*)

  • Ask customer if the sump screws are visible and if they can see a removable filter, use VS if customer agrees.
  • If it's a model without a washable filter, please skip the below steps. (see examples below)

Models without filter: Screws are visible.

Models with filter: No visible screws on the sump.

  • Turn off the dishwasher.

  • To unfasten the filter insert, rotate it counterclockwise.

  • Detach the filter insert.

  • Remove the fine filter.

  • Remove any dirt or other remains from the filters.

  • Rinse and scrub the filter under running water.

  • Reassemble the filters in the reverse order of the disassembly.

  • Replace the filter insert, and rotate clockwise to the close arrow.

WARNING:

If the filter insert is not closed properly, the dishwasher performance will be decreased.
