Question:
Why won't my dryer turn on?
Answer:
If your dryer does not power on, then please check the following:
- Make sure your dryer is plugged in to a live electrical outlet.
- Make sure you are using the correct kind of outlet.
- Electric dryers requires a dedicated 30 ampere circuit, and gas dryers require a dedicated 15 ampere circuit.
- Inspect the power cord for proper installation and for cracking, fraying, chafing, and damaged plug ends.
- If your cord has any of these conditions, unplug the dryer and replace the power cord.
- Check if the circuit breaker on the dryer circuit is tripped or open. If it is tripped, unplug the dryer and reset circuit breaker.
- If the circuit breaker trips again with the dryer unplugged, then there is a problem with the electrical wiring inside the house.
*If nothing is wrong with the circuit breaker, power cord, or outlet and the dryer still won't turn on, service is required.
Warning! Electrical repairs should be performed by a licensed electrician.
