PROBLEM :

Connect a recording device to a TV with no set-top-box

SOLUTION :

On June 17th, 2009, the FCC mandated that TVs switch to 100% digital broadcasting. This means that there are no longer any analog over-the-air broadcasts. Because of this, most manufacturers have stopped putting analog tuners into their recording devices. They are either using digital tuners or are not including any type of tuner at all.

There are now 3 types of recording devices available:

• Recording devices with a digital tuner (ATSC).
  
  
• Recording devices with no tuners.
  
  
• Older recording devices with only the analog (NTSC) tuner.
