Connect a recording device with a digital tuner to your TV

PROBLEM 1:

Connect a recording device with a digital tuner to your TV

SOLUTION 1:

You can connect a recording device with a digital tuner to your TV using the following required cables:

  • One length of coaxial (RF) cable that is long enough to go from the wall to the recording device.

  • A second length of coaxial (RF) cable OR one of the other HD or SD connection cables explained below, depending on the connections available on your recording device.

Note: If you choose to use one of the SD connections, you will not be able to receive a high definition (HD) picture on your television from the recording device.

HD connections:

  • Component cables

  • HDMI cables

  • DVI-to-HDMI cables with audio cables

SD connections:

  • Coaxial cables (RF cables)

  • Composite cables

 


PROBLEM 2:

Connect a recording device with a digital tuner using an HDMI cable

SOLUTION 2:

To connect a recorder to your TV with an HDMI cable, follow these steps:

  1. Connect the coaxial cable from the antenna or cable jack on your wall to the Coax (RF) IN on your recorder.

  2. Connect the second length of coaxial cable from the RF OUT of the recorder to the ANT IN (Coax) on the rear of your TV.

    Note: Step 2 is optional. Completing this step allows you to turn the recorder off and still watch TV. To watch TV when the recorder is off, press TV on the TV remote to switch to the coax (RF) input.

  3. Connect the HDMI cable from the HDMI OUT of the recorder to any of the HDMI inputs on the TV.

  4. Press SOURCE on the TV remote until you have selected the HDMI input chosen in step 3.

PROBLEM 3:

Connect a recording device with a digital tuner using a DVI-to-HDMI cable

SOLUTION 3:

To connect a recorder to your TV using a DVI-to-HDMI cable, follow these steps:

  1. Connect the coaxial cable from the antenna or cable jack on your wall to the RF IN on your recorder.

  2. Connect the second length of coaxial cable from the RF OUT of the recorder to the ANT IN (Coax) on the rear of your television.

    Note:
    Step 2 is optional. Completing this step allows you to turn the recorder off and still watch TV. To watch TV when the recorder is off, press SOURCE on the TV remote to switch to the TV input.

  3. Connect the DVI end of the DVI-to-HDMI cable to the DVI OUT on your recorder, and the HDMI end of the DVI-to-HDMI cable to the HDMI 1 in on the TV.

  4. Connect the audio (red and white) cables from the DVI audio OUT on the recorder to the DVI audio IN on the TV.

    Note: The DVI audio input is a Mini Stereo Plug (3.5mm). You will need to have a Mini plug to RCA converter or cable.

  5. Press the SOURCE button on the TV remote to switch to the HDMI 1/DVI input.

PROBLEM 4:

Connect a recording device with a digital tuner using a component cable

SOLUTION 4:

To connect a recorder to your TV with component A/V cables, follow these steps:

  1. Connect the coaxial cable from the antenna or cable jack on your wall to the RF IN on your recorder.

  2. Connect the second length of coaxial cable from the OUT of the recorder to the ANT IN (Coax) connection on your television.

    Note: Step 2 is optional. Completing this step allows you to turn the recorder off and still watch TV. To do this, press SOURCE on the TV remote to switch to the TV input.

  3. Connect the component video (green, blue and red) and audio (red and white) cables from the component video and audio OUT on your recorder to COMPONENT IN on your TV.

    Note: The connections on the TV face downward.

  4. Press the SOURCE button on the TV remote one or more times until you have selected COMPONENT.

PROBLEM 5:

Connect a recording device with a digital tuner using a composite cable

SOLUTION 5:

  1. Connect the coaxial cable from the antenna or cable jack on your wall to the RF IN on your recorder.

  2. Connect the second length of coaxial cable from the OUT of the recorder to the ANT IN (Coax) connection on your television.

    Note: Step 2 is optional. Completing this step allows you to turn the recorder off and still watch TV. To do this, press the TV button on the TV remote to switch to the TV input.

  3. Connect the composite video (yellow) and audio (red and white) cables from the composite video and audio OUT on your recorder to AV IN on your TV.

    Note: The AV in is a shared connection with the component input. You will see that the green input labeled Y also has a yellow ring around it to identify it as the composite video connection. On the TV, the connection jacks are facing down.

  4. Press the SOURCE button on the TV remote one or more times until you have selected COMPONENT.

PROBLEM 6:

Connect a recording device with a digital tuner using a coaxial cable

SOLUTION 6:

To connect a recorder to your TV with a coaxial cable (RF), follow these steps:

  1. Connect the coaxial cable from the antenna or cable jack on your wall to the RF IN on your recorder.

  2. Connect the second length of coaxial cable from the OUT of the recorder to the ANT In (Coax) connection on your television.

  3. Press the TV button on the TV remote.

    Note: You may need to perform an Auto Program to receive the signal.
