PROBLEM 1:

Connect a high definition box and standard recorder to your TV

SOLUTION 1:

When connecting your set-top-box and recording device, there are a few different factors that will change the setup. There are a few things you will need to know before proceeding in this section.

  • Do you have a Standard Definition (SD) or High Definition (HD) set-top-box?

  • Do you have a Standard recorder (No up-conversion function) or Up-conversion recorder?

There are many ways to connect a TV, a High Definition (HD) cable/satellite box, and a SD recording device (VCR, DVD recorder, etc.). Samsung recommends the following connection methods for both picture quality and ease-of-use.

To connect a TV, High Definition (HD) cable/satellite Box, and a recording device, you will need the following required cables:

  • Coax (RF) cable

  • Composite cable

You also need one of the following HD cables:

  • HDMI cable

  • DVI-to-HDMI cable with Mini Stereo-to-RCA audio cable

PROBLEM 2:

SOLUTION 2:

To connect your HD box, recording device, and TV with an HDMI cable, follow these steps:

  1. Connect one end of a coaxial (RF) cable to the wall and the other end to the CABLE IN or SATELLITE IN on your HD box.

  2. Connect one set of composite video (yellow) and audio (red and white) cables from the video and audio AV OUT on the HD Box to the video and audio AV IN on your recording device.

  3. Connect a second set of composite video (yellow) and audio (red and white) cables from the video and audio AV OUT on the recording device to the video and audio jacks (AV) on the TV.

Note: The component and composite connection are a shared connection. The connection jacks will be facing down on the TV.

  4. Connect the HDMI cable from the HDMI OUT on the HD box to any HDMI input on the TV.

  5. Use the remote of the recording device to switch the recording device input to the AV input to which you have connected your HD box.

Press the SOURCE button on the TV remote to switch between:

  • The Recording device (AV)

  • The HD Box (HDMI connection selected in step 4)

Note: The component and composite connection is a shared input. The connections jacks will be facing down on the TV.

  4. Connect the DVI end of an HDMI to DVI cable to the DVI OUT on the HD box.
