Connect an HD set-top-box and an up-conversion recording device to your TV

Problem 1:

Connect an HD set-top-box and an up-conversion recording device to your TV using an HDMI cable

Solution 1:

Connect a coaxial (RF) cable to the wall and the HD box's CABLE IN or SATELLITE IN.

Use composite video (yellow) and audio (red and white) cables from the HD box's AV OUT to the recording device's AV IN.

Use a HDMI cable from the recording device's HDMI out to the TV's HDMI in. Label the inputs to avoid confusion.

Connect another HDMI cable from the HD box's HDMI OUT to the TV's HDMI input.

Switch the recording device's input to the AV input connected to the HD box using its remote.

Press the TV's SOURCE button to switch between the recording device and the HD box.

 

Problem 2:

Connect an HD set-top-box and an up-conversion recording device to your TV using a DVI-HDMI cable

Solution 2:

Connect a coaxial (RF) cable to the wall and the HD box's CABLE IN or SATELLITE IN.

Use composite video (yellow) and audio (red and white) cables from the HD box's AV OUT to the recording device's AV IN.

Use a HDMI (or HDMI-DVI) cable from the recording device's HDMI out (or DVI out) to the TV's HDMI IN. Label the inputs to avoid confusion.

Connect another HDMI cable from the HD box's HDMI OUT (or DVI OUT) to the TV's HDMI input.

Connect audio (red and white) cables from the DVI device's AUDIO OUT to the TV's DVI audio IN (mini 3.5mm stereo plug). Use an RCA adapter cable or RCA adapter if needed.

Switch the recording device's input to the AV input connected to the HD box using its remote.

Press the TV's SOURCE button to switch between the recording device and the HD box.
