Question:
How can I fix backlight flickering on my Y21
Neo QLED TV?
Answer:
Affected Models
Y21 Neo QLED (MiniLED)
Symptom
Backlight flickeirng or part of the screen
is shaking
Background/Cause
In the miniLED models, the number of LEDs is
high and it is controlled by each block. The higher the number of LEDs, the
more data needs to be transmitted, and it should be driven according to each
sync.
If the timing is intermittently incorrect or
the sync is incorrect under certain conditions, the Backlight may partially/fully
tremble. We can solve the issue when the problem occurs, but Y21 models can
only be updated via USB.
Solution
If you're experiencing backlight flickering
or shaking on your Y21 Neo QLED TV, follow these steps to resolve the issue:
Check affected models: This
issue affects Y21 Neo QLED TVs (MiniLED).
Identify symptom: Look out for backlight flickering
or part of the screen shaking.
Understand cause: In MiniLED models, multiple
LEDs are controlled by individual blocks. As more LEDs require more data transmission,
an incorrect timing or sync may lead to partial/full backlight trembling.
Apply solution: Update the Local Dimming (LD)
firmware to the latest version using a USB drive to prevent future screen flickering.
Refer to the attached model list for the correct LD FW version. After updating,
confirm with the customer that they have the correct version installed.
Upgrade Guide
- Download LD FW file from SKP
- Create "LD" folder in the Root
folder of a USB stick
- Copy the LD FW file into the "LD"
folder and plug the USB stick into the TV port
- On the TV: Factory Menu -> SVC ->
Upgrade -> LD MCU upgrade
- Note: The update will not run unless you
access the LD MCU upgrade menu and have the USB stick plugged in.
Affected Models: Y21
Neo QLED (MiniLED) - These are the specific television models that have the
backlight flickering issue.
Symptom: Backlight flickering or part of the
screen shaking - This refers to the visual display problem experienced on the
TV screen.
Background/Cause: Incorrect timing or sync
- This means that there might be issues with how the TV processes and displays
its visuals, leading to the observed flickering.
Solution: Update the LD (Local dimming) Firmware
- Updating the firmware helps improve the TV's performance and prevents further
instances of screen flickering.
