Question
How to remove hard-water buildup?
Answer
What is hard water?
Hard water contains a high amount of minerals
like calcium and magnesium that build up over time and leave a scaly residue.
Most homes in Canada have hard water. Even though you have an amazing Samsung
appliance, the white grime can still accumulate. In a washing machine, it can
build up on the drum and choke the filters; it can also build on the inside
of a dishwasher and cause clogs. In both cases, your items will not come out
as clean. Maybe you did not care about dirty clothes or dishes as a kid, but
you care now.

The best way to prevent hard water buildup
is to buy a water softener or a whole home filter. With one of these, you will
have soft water throughout your whole house.
To clean the dishwasher:
- Remove items from the dishwasher.
- Take a cup and pour vinegar into it.
- Place the cup on the bottom rack of the
dishwasher.
- Close the door and start the dishwasher's
normal cycle. The water will mix with the vinegar and spread it around the
inside.
- Let the dishwasher air out after the cycle
is complete.
- Take an old toothbrush and scrub off any
remaining residue.
- Run the empty dishwasher one more time
with regular water and no detergent to remove any leftover vinegar.
